Fried Chicken!

Just Kidding..... but, the chicken house at the Bartig ranch did burn to the ground on the evening of July 22nd. All of the chickens were moved prior to the fire and are doing fine in the new "Hen Shack". We spent all day Sunday tearing down the Kirksville landmark and then torched it.

Thank You NEMO Fair Board

July 19th, The NEMO Fair Board bought the show premiums on Laura's Wether lamb for $325.00. Laura and her family are very appreciative to the board for their kind gesture.

As always there seems to always be additional drama. When we arrived at the fairgrounds we learned that Tiger's little yellow kitten had hitched a ride on the engine. Aside from being a little greasy..... he survived. Dr. Moore gave him a clean bill of health and he was passed around the show barn by the kids. Tiger was happy to see him come back home.

NEMO Fair

Laura showed sheep and goats at the NEMO fair on July 17th. She won a trophy for overall weight of gain with her wether "Carl" who weighed in at 172lbs with an average wt. of gain of .8 per day. JJ won reserve champion. The goat...... well lets just say good riddance.

Mama Kitty Takes Home the Goods!

Laura took Mama Kitty her 8 year old cat to the NEMO Fair cat show on July 12th. Needless to say despite a little hissing at the other cats the ole girl measured up pretty well. The judge said that she had a good frame and her ears were spic and span. Laura won first place (see pic).

Maddie Wins Reserve Champion, Carl Takes 1st

Our 4th show of the season was one to remember. On July 11th, we traveled 100 curvy miles to show in Gallatin, Missouri. Rain poured on us as we drove into town and continued into most of the morning but..... the sun was shining as we headed home. Maddie finally decided to pull her weight winning reserve champion in cross bred breeding sheep. Carl weighed in at 155lbs and took first in his class. Jumper took 3rd in her class of ewes. Laura was happy because she got a new t-shirt. Stay tuned as Thursday is the NEMO fair our next stop. It will also be a sad day as Carl will head to market.

Laura wins "Showmanship" at Cameron

Saturday, June 28th, 2008, brought Laura her first big win in the show ring! Laura won first place in Showmanship at the Cameron Open. What is Showmanship? In a nutshell, showmanship is an exhibitor’s ability to most effectively present an animal in a competitive yet positive attitude. By definition, a good showman is a person that has a sense for presenting the the animal. Winning showmanship certainly started with practice at home and Laura working with the lambs.

Laura's lambs placed well in the event with big Carl (145lb weather) coming in 3rd, JJ (ewe lamb) in 4th and Maddie (ewe lamb) in 6th. We were happy with the results as there were many high powered entrants from Missouri, Iowa and Kansas.

Great Job Laura!
