NEMO Fair 2011

Laura was once again a winner at the NEMO Fair. She received Champion Commercial Yearling Ewe, and then went on to receive Adair County Showmanship for Breeding Sheep, Ages 14 & over. After the breeding sheep show, the market lamb show started. Laura showed 5 lambs and the temp was 100+. Finally, she received Adair County Showmanship-Market Lambs, Ages 14 & over. Yeah, Laura!!

Lamb Camp

Laura spent last week at lamb camp in Warner, Oklahoma. The camp was intense and she worked from 5:00a.m. – 11:00p.m. (When I arrived back at the camp on Sat. she had dirt caked in the corner of her eyes and arms…not sure I ever thought I’d see it) She learned winning in anything is attitude, motivation. The camp is taught by Oklahoma State Representative Jerry McPeak. To say he was hard on the kids and had huge expectations would be understating the experience…. But he also hugged them. During the parent orientation he came right out and said…if you are an atheist you had better load your kid’s right back up and leave .. I will refund your money because we are going to talk about God. The camp centered on showing sheep but not as much as teaching kids’ confidence and determination.



70 of the best sheep showmen from around the US attended the camp. Laura made plenty of new friends - her room mates were from New Mexico and Lakeland, Florida. On the last day of the event Jerry held a sheep fitting/grooming competition and show. (Laura stayed up till 11p.m. grooming her lamb the night before) Dad about fell over backwards when the judges picked Laura off first as showmanship overall champion. Next, came the overall grooming/fitting champion….you guessed it … Laura and her Oklahoma partner were selected as overall champs.
The temperature was incredibly hot each day...it reached 108 on Thursday!

Be sure to check out that big swollen left ear as a bug bit him and...wow does he look funny when he goes to scratchin' at it like a little puppy dog. (Don't feel too sorry for him though as he dives head first into every cat pile, bush, flower bed....and the list goes on. Its really no wonder at all something took a bite out of that ear).
