Laura and dad drove 5 hours to the Sand Hills region of Nebraska for a tennis tournament. Laura came out of the gate playing out of her head and after upsetting the top seed cruised through the bracket taking the 16 and under title. Interestingly, Laura also entered the 18's (just for experience) and surprised everyone when she somehow found her way to the finals. After dropping the first set 3-6 to last years Nebraska HS state runner up, she came back and won the second set 6-0. The deciding set found both girls locked in a back and forth battle which.....Laura won. Overall, the weekend was pretty surreal since her match play was amazing.
Pablo, Laura's tennis coach, included this in this week's Clayview Newsletter-"Laura Bartig competed in Nebraska at the Grand Island Open and won not only her first USTA Open tournament in the G16's, but took the G18's as well, which also included ousting a tough player 11-9 in the 3rd set breaker. Congratulations!"
